OCBC Church Staff

Pastor Irv Cummings

Effective January 1, 2012, after 21 years of service to our community, Rev. Cummings retired from his pastorate at OCBC.  We are currently interviewing candidates for an intentional interim pastor and look forward to installing our new pastor by March.

On behalf of the Old Cambridge Baptist Church community, I welcome you to this site and to our church. I hope you will find time to visit us in person, soon. I know you will find among us a diverse and vibrant group of people, eager to be doers of the Word and not just speakers of it. We are also eager to get to know you and welcome you to this historic and wonderful place. Whether your calling is to join our choir, to serve in an outreach ministry, to work with our children, or to apply your talents to the many other ministries of this church, we welcome you.

I was born on a farm in the Adirondacks of New York State.  As a youngster and teenager, I was quite active in our local Presbyterian church where I received early grounding in the stories of the Bible.  Toward the end of my high school years, the Vietnam War was raging and I had to face the question of my own support of and involvement in that war as the day of my necessary registration with the Selective Service System inexorably approached.  I was lucky to have had the support of a pastor when that hour presented itself, for, in response to the question on the form regarding the morality of bearing arms, I resolutely stated that I was opposed to the practice.  Given that many of my friends had not responded in this way, and that they were currently serving in that war, this was a courageous move for me, but one that I could not have made had I not felt the guiding hand of God through all of it.
